Ava Lynam


Ava Lynam is a research assistant at the China Center of Technische Universitat Berlin. She coordinates the Urban Rural Assembly (BMBF) project team while conducting her doctoral research on the local socio-spatial impact of Chinese regional urban-rural transformation, through the lens of mobility and migration. She previously worked on this project as a student research assistant at Habitat Unit, while completing the international MSc. Urban Management program. Having lived and worked in Vietnam and Cambodia, she also has a particular interest in the influence of large-scale Chinese infrastructural projects in rural areas in the Southeast Asian region. Ava’s research is orientated towards urban sociology, co-productive planning, land dynamics, and rural urbanisation. 

Alongside this, she works as a freelance editor and writer, and is currently ‘researcher in residence’ at urban design and architecture practice Metropolitan Workshop. Ava formerly worked between London and Dublin as an urban designer and holds previous degrees in Architecture from the University of Nottingham and Urban Design from the Bartlett School of Architecture at UCL, London.
