Architecture and Cities in Modern and Contemporary China. A development across cultures, styles, and gender issues

Blockseminar: [Termine: tba]

Anmeldung: bis zum 29. Oktober 2020 unter www.china.tu-berlin.de/anmeldung

This seminar discusses the history of China's modern and contemporary built environment from a de-colonized, human-centered, and equity perspective.

By discussing the evolution of cities and architecture, the complex cultural matrix will link together multi-disciplinary aspects that all contributed to the transition of architecture and urban design in the recent history of China.

Besides analyzing projects and case studies, this seminar will narrate the evolution of the design professions by going into the biography of several key figures and investigating the role of independent architects and women professionals in recent years.

The seminar is suitable for all students (a background in architecture or urban studies is welcomed but not mandatory).
