This course will focus on four major themes that are imperative for future business leaders in understanding today’s China, making strategic decisions, i.e. 1) China’s macro-economy context in particular in the aftermath of the Convid-19 pandemic; 2) Transformation of competitive strategies of multinationals (MNCs) in China; 3) Challenges and opportunities of innovation management in China; and 4) Characteristics of Chinese entrepreneurship and Chinese startups. The course will first explain how an economy functions under the so-called ‘Socialism with Chinese Characteristics’. To what extent is this ‘success model’ sustainable in the long run considering challenges in society, economy, ecological environment and politics? What does it mean for innovation and entrepreneurship?
