EU-China: Perceptions in Crisis
The mutual perceptions of the EU and China are at a low. This course will focus on the changes in the past 20 years (following the 1998 First EU-China Annual Summit), with special attention to the “crisis” as we experience it today. While constantly keeping an eye on official EU-China diplomatic exchanges, we will also zoom in on a selection of events that have been on the agenda of the media. The aim is no historical overview but an understanding of the complexity of factors that shape our mutual perceptions today and have deep implications for the future.
Students striving for “große Leistung” will have a chance to create, conduct and evaluate a strictly course-related survey.
